The General Atomics RQ-1 Predator unmanned air vehicle has completed a demonstration deployment with the US Coast Guard (USCG) in Alaska. Two US Navy RQ-1s were used in the exercise, which included six flights in four days, much of the time in snow and temperatures as low as –34°C (-29°F). The UAVs flew maritime patrol missions, with flight operations under the direct control of the US Navy's Center for Interdisciplinary Remotely Piloted Aircraft Studies group. As part of the exercise, real-time video was taken from the RQ-1s and distributed to USCG centres around the USA.
