Dutch investigators have indicated that a preliminary report into the loss of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 is still several weeks away.
Preliminary reports into high-profile accidents are usually filed within 30 days but inquiries into the destruction of the Boeing 777 over eastern Ukraine on 17 July have been complicated by the armed conflict in the region.
The Dutch Safety Board says it has moved its team to The Hague to assess its data – pointing out that it does not need to be in Ukraine for this work – adding that it is uncertain whether it will be able to gather further information from the crash site.
It says the preliminary report will be based on sources including the cockpit-voice and flight-data recorder, air traffic control and radar information and possibly satellite photographs. The investigation team is “focused” on producing preliminary findings which, the Dutch Safety Board says, it intends to publish “in a few weeks”.
