India is to test-fire the long-range version of the Prithvi surface-to-surface missile by the end of the month. It will be the second firing of the 250km (135nm)-range version of the weapon, destined to be deployed by the Indian armed forces. One of reasons for the test is to check modifications undertaken to the ground-support system at the suggestion of the Indian Air Force. The weapon has been developed by the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation.
