PROCESS Technologies has introduced two models of its InfraTek de-icing system, aimed at the general-aviation market. The InfraTek uses heat to de-ice aircraft and was demonstrated to airlines in March, when a US Federal Aviation Administration Boeing 727 was de-iced in less than 8min.

The InfraTek system burns natural gas, or propane, to produce infra-red radiant energy at an electromagnetic wavelength which "effectively and efficiently" removes ice without any "negative effect on aircraft or occupants", says New York-based Process Technologies. The products are the System 250, for aircraft up to the size of the Raytheon Beech Super King Air, at an installed cost of $450,000; and the System 500, for aircraft up to Gulfstream IV size, at a cost of $700,000.
