Embraer has nominated Francisco Gomes Neto as president and chief executive.
Currently president of Brazilian bus and coach manufacturer Marcopolo, Gomes Neto is to succeed Paulo Cesar de Souza e Silva.
The election will take place when the board convenes after a shareholders' meeting on 22 April, says the company.
Board chairman Alexandre Silva credits the incoming chief with "vast international experience" and, noting his "focus on industrial sector management", describes him has having "the right profile and competencies to lead Embraer through this period of transformation of the company and of the global aerospace sector".
Embraer says the outgoing chief will serve as a senior adviser to the board during the transition and "throughout the segregation of assets and resources of the commercial aviation business, until the completion of the partnership with Boeing".
Boeing and Embraer plan to close their commercial aviation joint venture by year-end. The venture will be led by John Slattery, currently chief executive of Embraer's commercial aviation division. The two airframers are also forming a joint venture to promote and develop the KC-390 tactical transport.
