Airbus has received type certification for the CFM International Leap-1A-powered version of the A319neo.
The airframer says that the European Aviation Safety Agency and US Federal Aviation Administration issued the joint approval after more than 500h of flight testing since the twinjet took off for its first sortie in March 2017.
While both the A320neo and A321neo received their initial type certifications with the alternative Pratt & Whitney PW1100G geared turbofan – with subsequent approvals for the Leap-powered versions – Airbus opted to first concentrate on the Leap for the A319.
Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that Airbus has orders for 53 A319neos.
Some 17 of the aircraft have been ordered with Leap engines – 12 for Avianca, four for an unconfirmed Chinese operator, and a single ACJ319neo corporate jet – while no engine selection has been announced for the other 36.
The 36 orders are comprised of eight for Avianca, 26 for unannounced customers, and two ACJ319neos.
Airbus says the ACJ319neo is scheduled to enter service during the first half of 2019.
