The U.S. Air Secretary, Mr Thomas K Finletter, recently expressed the opinion that, although the U.S.A.F. was mainly equipped with second-line aircraft, it was sufficiently large to discourage aggression. The present 90-wing force represented a "100 per cent build-up" over the pre-Korean Air Force but, declared Mr Finletter, only the authorised 134 wings could enable America to prevent war.
