The Scaled Composites-built Proteus aircraft set three world altitude records on 25 and 27 October, reaching a peak altitude of 62,786ft (19,140m), a sustained altitude in horizontal flight of 61,919ft and a peak altitude of 55,878ft with a 1,000kg (2,200lb) payload. Flown from Mojave, California , the gross weights for the two flights were 4,070kg and 5,140kg respectively.
