The first Proton launch since the failure of a new Proton M on 5 July is scheduled for 6 September, when two Russian Yamal communications satellites will be carried into space by a Proton K on a domestic launch.

International Launch Services (ILS), meanwhile, has established an independent Failure Review Oversight Board to study the results of the Russian Commission's investigation into the July failure of the Proton M before clearing the vehicle for commercial launches.

After the review, and if there is a successful Yamal launch, ILS will fly a commercial Proton carrying the LMI-1 communications satellite in October.
