THE RECENTLY established Aviation Engineering unit of Purso Tools, based in Pori, Finland, has completed its first cabin-trainer project by updating an existing McDonnell Douglas MD-80 cabin-procedures simulator.

Purso says that it is in negotiations with potential customers and that it is attempting to establish a foothold in the cabin-trainer market by offering the equipment at low cost.

The update includes the installation of a new hydraulic-motion system, increasing pitch from 3° to 10°, along with a right-hand over-wing exit and a stub wing. Among other modifications are the additions of a pneumatic-jamming system for the cabin exit, a smoke generator and oxygen mask deployment system.

Purso Tools embarked on cabin-trainer work after its 1993 purchase of manufacturing rights for the product from Finnair.
