FlightSafety International has won interim Level C certification from Transport Canada for its Toronto-based Bombardier Q400 full flight simulator - the first approval for the stretched, 70-seat derivative of the de Havilland Dash 8 regional airliner.

European certification has also been received and Q400 launch customer SAS Commuter has begun training on the FlightSafety-built simulator. US certification is pending, and the device is expected to be recertificated to Level D early next year when more flight data becomes available.

FlightSafety's eighth Dash 8-100/Q200/Q300 simulator will be installed in its new Atlanta, Georgia, training centre next August. The Level D simulator will be ready for training at the end of the third quarter of next year.

The US training company has also received Level D certification for the fourth of eight simulators planned for the Embraer RJ-135/145 regional jet. The device is installed at FlightSafety's Houston, Texas, training centre for use by Continental Express.
