Qantas is partnering Patrick Corporation, co-owner of Qantas competitor Virgin Blue, in a joint venture, Engine Services Company, to acquire the former Ansett engine maintenance facility at Tullamarine, Melbourne to establish a maintenance centre for General Electric and CFMI engines.
Patrick already has an aircraft maintenance business, Brisbane-based JetCare, which conducts line maintenance on the Virgin Blue fleet.
Meanwhile, Qantas and Air New Zealand have lodged an appeal with the Australian Competition Tribunal against the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's (ACCC) rejection of their proposed alliance.
