Qantas Airways is significantly boosting its domestic services and bringing forward the launch of its low-cost subsidiary Australian Airlines in response to extra demand following the grounding of Ansett Australia and to restructure the airline in the face of the industry crisis. Australian Airlines will now launch in April rather than the second half of 2002 as originally planned, taking over unprofitable routes to Asian cities from Qantas. At home, Qantas now claims a domestic market share of 85%.
