Rolls-Royce has brought in four new risk-sharing partners to join the development programme for the Trent 900 engine destined for the Airbus A380. FiatAvio of Italy and US companies Goodrich, Hamilton Sunstrand and Honeywell will join Volvo, which signed up in May.

Goodrich will produce the rear and centre portions of the fan case. Honeywell is to supply the pneumatic system. FiatAvio, which already participates in the Tay and Trent 500, will design and manufacture the Trent 900 gearbox. Hamilton Sundstrand, already a partner in the Trent 500, will produce the Trent 900's Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system.

The engine has been selected by Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Qantas and ILFC.

The new partners go some way to compensate Rolls-Royce for Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI)'s recent decision to reject the offer of a risk-sharing role.
