Boeing Australia is to upgrade the Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF) Boeing F/A-18A/Bs. Contract details are expected to be finalised early next year, with the first aircraft to be inducted into the programme next October. The first phase will include new mission computers, an ARC-210 communications suite, global positioning system, new identification friend or foe, and changes to support the introduction into service of the Matra BAe Dynamics ASRAAM. Follow-on work will include replacing the APG-65 radar with the Raytheon APG-73, a new electronic warfare suite, helmet mounted sights and Link 16.
