Racal Avionics feels it has plenty to shout about at Farnborough, thanks to winning important orders for both military and civilian equipment.

UK MoD orders include avionics upgrades on Royal Navy Sea King, Lynx, and Nimrod aircraft, and the company is currently bidding on others.

Leo Gallagher, commercial director of Racal Avionics, says: "Above all, the MoD is interested in performance and we've been delivering.

"But at the same time we want to develop new commercial products and if it means going into partnership with other companies we will," he adds.

The Aero-I satcom, which could soon find its way on to widebody airlines, is already produced in partnership with Honeywell.

Gallagher also sees a real market for Direct broadcast service television for aircraft over the next few years and Racal has a system ready now for the Gulfsteam IV.
