Engine Failure reported by the pilot ended in tragedy when this Northern Executive Aviation-operated Learjet 35A crashed during an emergency landing at Lyon Satolas Airport, France, on 2 May. Although the three passengers, including Formula One racing driver David Coulthard, were uninjured, the two pilots died. Satolas' manager reports that, on touchdown, fire appeared to be coming from the rear of the aircraft, the left wing hit the ground causing serious damage, the aircraft bounced and the nose hit the ground. The aircraft slewed left off the runway and the cockpit section detached. The French aviation ministry confirms that the pilot had shut down one engine before the emergency landing.
