Israeli test-equipment company Rada is expanding its network of testing sites, with a second US centre, at Los Angeles International Airport, to be established in co-operation with Hong Kong company New Reef.

The first US testing station at Miami is now operational, and the two centres will together supply automated line-replacable unit (LRU) testing for US airlines, based on the Israeli company's Smart Cats automatic test equipment.

Similar centres already exist in China, while the system has also been purchased by major airlines such as Alitalia, British Airways, United Airlines and US Airways.

The Smart Cats enables testing of analogue and digital LRUs such as flight-management computers, generator-control units, ground-proximity warning systems and flight-control systems.

Rada claims that the Smart Cats system is capable of testing 75% of the LRUs used in any commercial airline fleet.
