WESTLAND/Agusta EH101 transport helicopters for the Royal Air Force are to be fitted with the Nemesis directed infra-red countermeasures system, forward-looking infra-red (FLIR) sensor and in-flight refueling (IFR) probe.

The UK Ministry of Defence and Westland are believed to have concluded details of the procurement this month.

The RAF is to receive 24 EH101s to meet its medium-lift helicopter requirement. All airframes will be capable of being fitted with the FLIR and IFR probe. At least six shipsets of each system are to be purchased.

The aircraft will have night-vision-goggle compatible cockpits.

All of the RAF's utility EH101s may be fitted with the Nemesis, being developed by a Northrop Grumman-led team. The system is intended to provide helicopter crews with a defensive-aids system to counter short-range surface-to-air infra-red-guided missiles.
