Sir - I was sad to learn that the continued flying of the Royal Air Force Messerschmitt BF109G, Black 6, may be in some doubt.

The aircraft is operated commercially by the UK's Imperial War Museum at Duxford, but the UK Ministry of Defence, the owner, may ground it and put it in a static museum.

Given the effort by Russ Snadden and his team to restore this aircraft to flying condition, it would be sad to see it grounded.

The RAF's proper concern with its heritage can best be shown by keeping such a machine flying. People have worked hard for this, and their efforts should not be brought to nothing by grounding the aircraft and confining it to a museum.
