Rafael has transformed its previous Air Defence Directorate into an Air superiority Systems Sector, with the new entity to be responsible for air and missile defence systems, plus the Israeli company's air-to-air product line.
The change is part of a company-wide restructuring that Rafael says is aimed at better using its assets to cope with the new threats Israel faces, and world market demands.
Air-to-ground weapons including the Spice bomb guidance kit and electro-optical systems, such as the Litening targeting pod and Reccelite reconnaissance pod, now come within the remit of a newly established Air & C4ISR Systems Sector. Research and development investment will meanwhile be amalgamated into an R&D and Engineering Division.
"These changes were made in keeping with our vision to serve as a significant pillar in Israel's security, in addition to serving as its national laboratory, while maintaining our robust financial performance," says Rafael chief executive Yedidia Yaari. The company reported sales totalling more than $1.7 billion in 2012.
