Embraer expects re-engining its E-jet family would generate at least a 12% reduction in fuel burn should the manufacturer decide to replace the current General Electric CF34 powerplant.
The Brazilian manufacturer has been evaluating several new aircraft options including a re-engined Embraer 170 and 190, as well as a larger clean-sheet aircraft.
Chief executive Frederico Curado expects a decision by year-end and says GE, Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney all have indicated they would be ready to launch a re-engining project.
"We see interest from all three parties in working with us," Curado says. He adds the three engine manufacturers are all promising similar benefits: "You look at those three almost-ready engines and the numbers are similar."
Embraer expects a new engine would provide a 12-15% improvement in fuel burn.
