A total health and usage monitoring system (T-HUMS) supplied by RSL Electronics has completed a successful programme of flight tests on board Boeing Apache AH-64 attack helicopters operated by the Israeli air force.
The RSL T-HUMS is a third-generation HUMS which the company says provides dependable automatic real-time fault detection and eliminates traditional overheads of data handling and data mining, plus reduced false alarm rates.
The system's capabilities have been tested to capture, ahead of time, failure modes such as latent compressor stall, cracked blades and defective clutch.
As part of RSL's strategic efforts for HUMS leadership, its embedded Vib-RAY technology has been applied to drive trains and engines of civil and military aircraft, plus UAVs.
RSL says it expects to launch additional applications of the T-HUMS for the Sikorsky S-70 Black Hawk, Boeing CH-47 Chinook and Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion in the near future.
