Israel and Jordan have agreed to redevelop the present airport at the Red Sea resort of Aqaba as the joint Eilat-Aqaba airport. The airport will be renamed Salaam/Shalom and will remain entirely under Jordanian political control. The project will cost $35 million and should be completed by mid-1998.
