REFLECTONE HAS been awarded Lockheed Martin a contract to produce a C-130J Hercules 2 systems-familiarisation trainer for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The device is scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 1997 and will be used for both pilot and maintenance-technician training.

The award is important to the US simulation company, which is training-systems contractor for the Royal Air Force's C-130J programme, because the RAAF has already selected competitor CAE Electronics, and its local subcontractor Qantas of Australia, to supply the full-flight simulator for its 12 Hercules 2s.

Reflectone has produced simulators for earlier models of the C-130 and is keen to build on the relationship forged with Lockheed Martin when it agreed to supply an integrated training-system as part of the RAF's 25-aircraft order for the upgraded Hercules 2 transport.

The company's UK subsidiary is working on a Lockheed Martin contract worth more than $70 million to provide the complete RAF C-130J training-system, which will include a training centre with two full-flight simulators, maintenance-training devices and computer-based training.

The RAAF's systems-familiarisation trainer will feature a large-screen projection system which will be coupled to cockpit switches, allowing the display of dynamic schematics showing the operation of aircraft systems.
