Russia is trying to interest South Korea in the purchase of weapons including Sukhoi Su-35 fighters and Almaz S-300 surface-to-air missile system. A Russian military delegation visited Seoul recently to discuss a memorandum of understanding on arms procurement. The Su-37 prototype is due to appear at the Seoul air show in October, even though the South Koreans appear more interested in pursuing current F-16 purchase programmes and developing their own future fighter. Weapons have recently, been delivered by Russia, as repayments for debts owed to the South Korean Government.
