US regulators have requested more detailed information about the business plans of transatlantic start-up carrier SkyLink Airways, which is hoping to start a low-fare service between Baltimore/Washington and European cities, writes David Kaminski-Morrow.

The US Department of Transportation's office of aviation analysis has requested clarification within 30 days of SkyLink's plans in four key areas: ownership, management, operations and financing.

The department wants to determine aspects of the would-be airline's corporate structure such as the share ownership of the senior management and the organisation of its personnel.

SkyLink is planning to use Boeing 767s to operate transatlantic charter services from December before phasing in scheduled services from April 2005.
