Singapore's high court has dismissed a damages suit brought against SilkAir by relatives of victims of the December 1997 Boeing 737-300 crash in Indonesia, in which all 104 people on board were killed.

The court ruled there was "no evidence the crash of Flight MI185 had been due to wilful misconduct" on the part of the captain or the first officer.

The relatives had called international experts, who testified that the crash could not have been caused by mechanical failure, and that the aircraft's descent profile suggested the captain, Tsu Way Ming, had deliberately brought it down. The defence countered that the crash could have been due to "progressive electrical failure", a rapid decompression event, or other problems.
