RIO-SUL HAS FINALLY sealed a $7 million bid to buy fellow Brazilian regional Nordeste Lineas Aeres.
Rio-Sul, which is part of the Varig group, had been attempting to make the acquisition for over two years, but ran into political opposition from the Bahia region in the north-east of Brazil, where Nordeste is based.
Nordeste's fleet of nine Embraer EMB-110 Bandeirantes will be replaced with EMB-120 Brasilias. Nordeste also has options on two EMB-145 regional jets.
