Taiwan's EVA Airways says it wants to enter into co-operative arrangements with China Airlines (CAL) following a recent change in top management at its main rival.

EVA's spokesman, deputy senior vice president Nieh Kuo Wei, says from Taipei: "The senior management of China Airlines is already changed, so of course EVA Air is looking for the possibility to have co-operation with China Airlines in the future."

While stressing that no talks have yet been held, he adds: "We could co-operate in ground handling, maintenance, etc, and it will have advantages or both airlines."

Earlier this month a new board of directors at CAL replaced both the airline's chairman and president in a major shakeup that followed a change of government in Taiwan.
