Start-up transatlantic low-cost operator RivieraJet Airways is planning to start operations later this year from US gateway airports to Western Europe.
The carrier is looking at either an Airbus A330-200 or Boeing 767-300ER for a product designed to be a transatlantic version of JetBlue Airways. It plans up to three weekly services from the US northeast, East Coast and southern Florida to the likes of Berlin, Brussels, London Stansted, Nice and Rome.
The RivieraJet management team includes transatlantic low-cost pioneer Freddie Laker and Virgin Atlantic's former US chief David Tait. Its founder and chief executive is the IT entreprenuer Thomas Bonetti.
US start-up operator SkyLink Airways is also looking to establish a low-cost scheduled transatlantic service. It plans to operate from Baltimore/Washington International Airport, starting with a service to London Stansted in 2005.
UK transatlantic start-up carrier Flyblu, meanwhile, intends to begin services this year from the UK's Birmingham International Airport to Orlando Sanford, Fort Lauderdale and St Petersburg-Clearwater in Florida.
