American firm RJE International, manufacturers of underwater, research and recovery navigation systems, is being represented for the first time at Farnborough by Glendale International in Hall 2/A37.

One of the many displays is an underwater locator beacon which bolts on to black boxes, as used on the TWA 747 in the recent Long Island crash.

The beacon is designed to withstand total disintegration of the aircraft, and can sink up to 20,000ft, turn itself on and continually signal an acoustic pulse for up to 90 days.

RJE International is also supplying divers at the scene of the crash with sonar equipment to locate the wreckage and victims, as well as supplying equipment on remote operated vehicles which locate the black box.
