The Royal New Zealand Air Force has appointed Ernst &Young to organise the sale of its 17 McDonnell Douglas A-4K Skyhawks and 17 Aermacchi MB339CBs.

The New Zealand Ministry of Defence says the final training exercise with the Skyhawks took place earlier this month. RNZAF director of logistics, Gp Capt Peter Guy says a number of organisations have expressed interest in the aircraft.

In May, the New Zealand Government announced its decision to disband the RNZAF's combat air wing and sell the aircraft by the end of this year. The scrapping is expected to yield savings of NZ$870 million ($354million) in the New Zealand defence budget over the next 10 years.
