ROCKWELL AEROSPACE and Aero Vodochody have formally signed a $18.6 million agreement, under which the US company's North American Aircraft Modification division will design a new avionics system and install it in a prototype Aero L-159 combat aircraft.

The main members for the avionics-system team include AlliedSignal - which will supply the multi-function displays, air-data computer and IFF transponder - and Flight Visions, which will supply the head-up display.

A stores-management system will come from Dynamic Controls, FIAR will supply the fire-control radar and GEC-Marconi will provide the radar-warning receiver.

The prototype of the Czech L-59F advanced trainer will be flown in early 1996. The L-59F is a modified variant of the L-39 Albatros made by Aero Vodochody. It will be powered by an AlliedSignal engine, while Israeli avionics specialist Elbit will supply the cockpit systems.
