BM requests exemption - Frustrated with lack of progress in revising the US-UK bilateral, British Midland (BM) has requested an exemption for the US Department of Transportation to start a London Heathrow-New York Kennedy service. BM cites exemptions granted to Delta Air Lines and Continental Airlines to fly to London under a codesharing agreement. Separately, BM and Air Canada were to have begun codesharing between London and Calgary, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver via Amsterdam at the end of May.

BA and Iberia codeshares - British Airways and Iberia have announced the first codeshares since they sealed their strategic alliance in February, when BA and American took a 10% stake in the state-owned carrier. These include domestic services from London, Madrid and Barcelona and routes between Madrid and Birmingham and Edinburgh, and Barcelona-Birmingham. Hub-to-hub codeshares have been ruled out at present, as have Latin America flights.
