++ United Parcel Service (UPS) has launched a service to Penang six times a week as an en route extension to its existing operation from the carrier's Taipei hub to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. ++ New Zealand has signed an open-skies agreement with Malaysia, permitting each national carrier the right to operate unlimited frequencies between and beyond the two countries. The deal follows similar agreements struck by New Zealand with Singapore, the USA and the United Arab Emirates. Wellington also plans to open talks with Brunei on an open-skies bilateral. ++ Continental Airlines has been given authority by the US Department of Transportation to provide a daily service between the USA and Chile. The new service, which becomes available on 15 December, is included in the liberalised US-Chile aviation bilateral agreement. Continental will connect Newark and Santiago. Delta Air Lines will step in to provide a service between Atlanta and Santiago, with an intermediate stop in San Paolo, should Continental withdraw from the market. United had proposed a Miami-Santiago service via Sao Paulo. ++ Jet Airways is adding new routes from Delhi to Pune and Bangalore, and from Chennai to Coimbatore. ++ Canada 3000 is launching routes to Belfast and Dublin from Toronto starting in May 1998. They will be operated by a Boeing 757. ++ Midway Airlines will boost frequencies on flights from Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, to Boston, Philadelphia, and Orlando when it introduces the first two of ten new Bombardier Canadair Regional Jets in January 1998. ++ China Northern Airlines has approval to launch four new routes to Japan, including from Harbin to Niigata, from Shenyang to Osaka and Sapporo and between Dalian and Toyama. It will also fly from Harbin to the South Korean capital of Seoul from early 1998.
