++ Polar Air has won US Department of Transportation approval to operate cargo flights between the USA and South Africa via Egypt, Kenya, the Netherlands and Zimbabwe, using Boeing 747 freighters. Flights will begin in April 1998. ++ American Airlines is to launch daily transatlantic flights from Boston to London Gatwick on 22 May with Airbus A300-600Rs, and Dallas/ Fort Worth to Manchester, UK, on 6 April, using Boeing 767-300ERs. ++ American Airlines and Mexican airline Aero California have entered into a codeshare arrangement for flights between the USA and Mexico. ++ British Airways has received UK Civil Aviation Authority approval to operate a non-stop daily service to Denver, Colorado, while Virgin Atlantic failed in its request to serve Las Vegas, Nevada. ++ British Airways franchisee CityFlyer Express is to operate a three-times-a-day service between London Gatwick and Zurich, Switzerland, from 29 March. The service replaces an existing one operated by BA itself. ++ Azzurraair of Milan, Italy, has switched its scheduled services from Rome's Ciampino Airport to the city's Fiumicino Airport, Alitalia's base. ++ Eurowings will operate a twice-daily service from London Stansted to Nuremburg, Germany, from 2 February, using Aero International (Regional) ATR 42-500s. ++ Delta Air Lines is to start daily operations to Guatamala City, Panama City, San Salvador and San Jose in Costa Rica on 5 April. ++ Debonair will establish a hub in southern Italy on 1 February, operating from Calabrian airports of Lamezia and Reggio to Turin, Bologna, Florence and Rome. ++ Emirates will start a twice weekly service to Malta via Athens from 30 March using an Airbus A300-600R. ++ Air France has launched a service from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Pointe-Noire, Congo, using an Airbus A320 with a refuelling stop at Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso.
