-United Airlines and Delta Air Lines are seeking permission to offer daily services to Brazil - Delta from New York's Kennedy Airport to Sao Paulo, and United from Los Angeles. A new bilateral agreement provides seven additional weekly frequencies from 1 October.

-US Airways is seeking permission to add a second daily flight between Philadelphia and Paris Charles de Gaulle, beginning on 1 March, 1999.

-Two Australian night freighter express operators will share new capacity to Papua New Guinea. Brisbane-based Transair will fly four services a week to Port Moresby, while Questair will boost its services from four to eight a week.

-Delta Air Lines has begun a daily non-stop service from Atlanta to Lima, Peru.

-KLM Cargo has begun weekly services to Tel Aviv and to Kiev, Istanbul and Helsinki through Schreiner Airways.

-Cathay Pacific has increased the frequency of its Hong Kong-Los Angeles non-stop flights from 10 a week to twice a day.

-The UK and China have concluded a deal to allow flights between the UK and Shanghai, and to increase the number of flights between London and Beijing. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are vying to be the UK's sole designated carrier.

-Continental Airlines and Vasp of Brazil began code-sharing operations on 1 July between Newark and both Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

-Futura Direct has begun its pioneering service connecting Leeds/Bradford Airport to Palma, Mallorca.

-British Midland and Lufthansa will extend code-sharing to their Manchester-Düsseldorf services from 1 September, with BM aircraft operating the route three times a week.

-Thai Airways is to increase its services between Bangkok and London Heathrow to 10 a week from 26 October.

-Emirates Airlines will start a new twice-weekly service to Peshawar on 14 July, following a bilateral agreement between Dubai and Pakistan.
