-Dutch carrier Transavia is to become the first non-Greek airline to operate scheduled domestic services between Greek territories when, from 2 November this year to 27 March 1999, it sets up flights between Rhodes and Heraklion, Crete.

-Martinair Cargo will increase both routes and capacity in the Latin American region by 80% by early next year. The build-up from Miami involves new cargo services to Buenos Aires and Lima. More flights have been added between Atlanta and points in Ecuador. Martinair affiliate Tampa Airlines will add a McDonnell Douglas DC-10 cargo service to Colombia and Venezuela from Miami.

-Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines have introduced additional codeshare services to Malaysia and Indonesia, on three additional weekly services to Jakarta and two more to Kuala Lumpur. Passengers fly out of Frankfurt on a Lufthansa aircraft, changing in Singapore to the local partner airline.

-Lufthansa Cargo has added three weekly Frankfurt-Tokyo frequencies to its services via Fairbanks, Alaska. The new flights used to be operated by Japan Airlines (JAL) via Anchorage, Alaska, but, on Southern Air Transport's recent demise, JAL lost the use of two Boeing 747s which SAT was wet-leasing to it.

-Air Madagascar has launched a new weekly service from Antananarivo to Singapore, operating a 218-seat Boeing 767-300ER.

-Eurowings is further extending its new strategic partnership with KLM, introducing a new service from Leipzig/Halle to Amsterdam from 25 October.

-As part of their new strategic alliance, KLM and Alitalia have announced routes between the UK and Italy. From the end of November, KLM uk will be operating codeshare schedules from its base at London Stansted, UK, to Rome, Italy, and also from Manchester, UK, to Milan Malpensa.

-Starting next March, British Midland is to operate daily direct flights from London Heathrow to Budapest, Hungary.
