British Airways will codeshare with Swiss regional Crossair on the London Heathrow-Basle, Switzerland, route from next month when the major drops its own services. Boeing MD-83s will fly the service, which is one of a number of underperforming routes BA is dropping. US low-fare carrier Pro Air will launch the Pro Air Express feeder service from its Detroit City hub in the fourth quarter, using three Saab 2000s. Four-year-old Pro Air, which operates four Boeing 737s, will take over operation of the Saabs from General Motors (GM), which uses the aircraft as 36-seat corporate shuttles. GM will continue to hold the leases. Eastwind Airlines is to suspend services indefinitely from 8 September. The airline, which served Trenton, Greensboro, and Orlando, says discussions are under way with several prospective carriers as well as an international investor. Moroccan flag carrier Royal Air Maroc has requested US permission to extend one of its weekly Casablanca-New York flights to Toronto. American Eagle will expand regional jet services from Chicago O'Hare significantly on 1 October, introducing jets on turboprop routes, increasing jet services on mixed turboprop/jet routes and converting certain routes to all-jet operations. The American Airlines regional affiliate will also introduce regional jet services at New York Kennedy on 1 November. American Airlines and EVA Airways have formed a marketing alliance that includes codesharing on routes between the USA and Taiwan, pending governmental approval. The Asian carrier tells Flight International's sister on-line service Air Transport Intelligence that the move has no bearing on its future alliance plans. Japan Airlines has expanded its codesharing agreement with American Airlines, which began in May, adding routes between Dallas/Ft Worth and Washington DC, Memphis, Oklahoma, Kansas City and San Antonio. Lufthansa has dropped Frankfurt-Kuala Lumpur services.
