Aloha Airlines will begin daily services between Honolulu, Hawaii, and Orange County, California, continuing to Las Vegas, Nevada, on 1 May. A daily flight between Kahului, Maui, and Orange County will be added on 1 June. Singapore Airlines will launch three services a week between Singapore and Chicago via Munich in the third quarter, using Boeing 777-200ERs. London Gatwick-based charter airline Sabre Airways is preparing to relaunch its operations in May under the name Excel Airways. The move follows the acquisition last November of a 67% share in the airline by independent UK holiday firm Libra Holidays. Continental Airlines launched the first nonstop New York-Hong Kong flight on 1 March, using a Boeing 777 on a new route over the North Pole. Ryanair has confirmed that it will launch operations from a new hub at Brussels South/Charleroi airport on 26 April. The airline will operate up to 30 flights a day to points in the UK, Ireland, Italy and France, using four 737s, two of which will be based at Chareloi. Venezuelan airline Aeropostal will introduce daily services on 19 March from Caracas to Bogota, Columbia, and Quito, Equador, using 141-seat Boeing 727-200s. Santiago, Chile, will join the network in July. Augsburg Airways is introducing twice daily scheduled services later this month between Cologne/Bonn and Birmingham. The Italian Government is holding a competition to nominate an airline to fly from Milan and Rome to Sardinia. The move is aimed at boosting traffic between the Italian mainland and the island's airports of Cagliari, Alghero and Olbia. The airline would provide low fares for Sardinian residents and reduced prices for other passengers, in exchange for the exclusive right to fly on these routes for two years. The government will provide a subsidy of L70 billion ($34 million). A similar programme is planned for Sicily.
