The US Department of Transportation has tentatively awarded Polar Air Cargo fifth-freedom rights to operate three weekly cargo flights between Hong Kong and Seoul, South Korea. FedEx Express already operates five weekly cargo flights between Hong Kong and Subic Bay in the Philippines. Polar Air Cargo has also introduced a weekly Boeing 747 freighter service from New York Kennedy to Gothenburg, Sweden. The flight will return via Prestwick, Scotland. Korean Air has launched flights to Qingdao, China, operating three times a week. American Airlines will begin daily Boeing 737-800 service between Chicago O'Hare and Cancun, Mexico, on 15 December. The airline will reinstate non-stop Chicago-Rome services for next year's summer season (1 May- 31 October), served by 190-seat Boeing 767-300s. Cargolux has introduced a weekly flight between Luxembourg and Sharjah, via Kuwait. Ghana Airways is reintroducing two flights a week between Accra and Johannesburg on 22 September, operated by Airbus A320s leased from Lebanon-based Lotus Air. The airline suspended a weekly flight in July when the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 serving the route had to undergo a D-check. Scandinavian Airlines has boosted capacity on its services to New Delhi, replacing Boeing 767s with Airbus A340s. Delta Air Lines inaugurated service between Salt Lake City, Utah, and Honolulu, Hawaii, on 1 September. The daily flight uses a Boeing 767-400ER. AeroMexico has expanded its codeshare with Aerolitoral to include the Mexican regional carrier's daily Saab 340 flights from San Diego to Mexicali, with continuing service to Hermosillo and Ciudad Obregon, and six-times-weekly Fairchild Metro flights between McAllen, Texas, and Monterrey. China Southern Airlines has begun weekly non-stop services between Guangzhou and Fukuoka, Japan with an Airbus A320. The airline also operates service from Guilin to Fukuoka via Wuhan.
