Royal Air Maroc has postponed plans to start direct flights to Israel following the near-breakdown of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and the accompanying upsurge of violence in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Earlier this year, Israel and Morocco reached agreement providing for flights between the two countries, starting at the end of the year. The scheme has been delayed on the orders of Morocco's King Hassan.

The violence has hit tourism to the area. Majdi Sabri, vice-president for commercial affairs at Royal Jordanian Airlines, says that the airline has suffered about 10,000 reservations cancellations in recent months.
