Royal Jordanian selected the 787 as the replacement aircraft for its ageing A340-200 fleet. The carrier has a four-aircraft fleet, two being on lease from Airbus Financial Services through mid-2007 and two aircraft on lease through 2008. Royal Jordanian is negotiating with Boeing and several leasing companies to operate four 787-8s. It may increase its commitment depending upon how it opts to replace its A310s, which are due to be phased out from 2011.
The carrier also decided to add four new A320 family aircraft, two A321s and two A319s to its fleet. The A321s are intended to replace two 1997-built A321s that Royal Jordanian leases from GATX, while the addition of two A319s will expand the fleet in early 2008.
