State corporation Rostekhnologii (Russian Technologies) has selected Boeing to supply aircraft under a tender for medium-haul narrowbodies issued last August.
In a statement Rostekhnologii says that, following an analysis of commercial proposals, Boeing was found to have "presented the best offer" regarding technical, operational and financial considerations.
Rostekhnologii, which had been seeking up to 65 aircraft, has yet to specify the Boeing types involved.
The aircraft were originally aimed at providing a fleet for the proposed carrier Rosavia, which was to have been created through airline holdings controlled by Rostekhnologii.
Under a revised plan, however, these holdings in six airlines are being transferred instead to Russian flag-carrier Aeroflot.
Rostekhnologii says that it will co-operate with Aeroflot to "form solid orders" for specific aircraft types.
