RwandAir is to lease a pair of Boeing 737-500 aircraft from GECAS as part of its fleet development plan.
The airline states that it intends to acquire the aircraft from the US lessor in May and July.
RwandAir has been planning to take a pair of 737-800s next year but indicated last month that it was looking at additional 737s.
Acting chief executive John Mirenge says the airline needs the jets to develop its network.
RwandAir, which has recently introduced Bombardier CRJ200 regional jets, is expecting to deploy the 737s on high-demand routes from Kigali such as Johannesburg.
