Ryanair has named Carol Sharkey as its first chief risk officer.
The low-cost carrier says Sharkey, who is currently its director of safety and security, will assume responsibility for all of Ryanair's operational risk assessment and report directly to chief executive Michael O'Leary.
Sharkey has worked at Ryanair since 1995, and O'Leary credits her with "encyclopedic knowledge" of the business and "how we deliver controlled growth safely".
She becomes the only woman on the Irish airline's senior management board.
