RYANAIR UK IS planning a substantial expansion of the low-fare, no-frills, service concept pioneered in Europe by its Irish parent company.

While keeping details under wraps until plans have been finalised, Ryanair UK managing director Tim Jeans confirms that more UK routes and a determined foray into Europe will be initiated once the company obtains its air operator's certificate, now expected at the end of January. The new services will start by May 1996, centred on London Stansted.

With the Irish routes growing, Ryanair is unwilling to transfer any of its Boeing 737-200s on to the UK register for operation from Stansted. According to Jeans, the airline is seeking an additional two 737-200s, but has not identified a source, as few are available.

Once the aircraft are registered in the UK, Ryanair UK will also be able to offer 100% of the seats on Stansted-Prestwick, now operated as a "fifth-freedom" extension to Dublin-Prestwick (Flight International, 29 November-5 December).
