The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter search and rescue service at Stornoway in the north of Scotland has recorded its longest operational flight since the introduction of new-technology aircraft in 2007. The Sikorsky S-92 medium twin helicopter flew 490km (265nm) south-west of Stornoway on a 4h rescue mission in late March, returning a casualty to a hospital in Stornoway. CHC Helicopter provides search and rescue services on behalf of the agency from four bases around the UK. The S-92s were introduced to the Stornoway and Sumburgh-based fleet in mid-2007.
