The South African Government has confirmed that the transportation sector is next on the list for privatisation, once a partner has been found for the state-owned telecommunications company, adding to long-running speculation that attention could soon turn to South African Airways. Officials are said to be in the process of identifying likely privatisation candidates among the state transport companies, but, as yet, no timetable has been set.
